Printing Non-English SIGs
This topic explains how to print non-English, non-Chinese SIGs on the vial label. For instructions on printing Chinese SIGs, click here.
If your patient does not read English, you can print a SIG in their language of choice on the Half, Thermal, or Daily Laser label. Propel Rx supports 11 different languages on the label, including English. Auxiliary labels can be printed in English, French, Italian, or Spanish. If a non-supported auxiliary label language is chosen for the prescription, the auxiliary label prints in English.

The SIGs will appear in the designated language on the vial label, e-File copy, Forms, and Patient Centre. However, on the hard copy, Technical Validation/Clinical Review, and reports, the SIG will appear in English for your reference.
There are 3 parts to printing a non-English SIG. Select the dropdowns below for more information.
In Propel Rx, non-English Instructions and SIG Codes are pre-loaded and stored in List Maintenance. You can use existing Instructions and SIG Codes for prescriptions or create custom entries.
SIG Codes are smaller pieces of directions that can be combined to form an Instruction. You can enter SIG Codes freeform or select an Instruction from the SIG dropdown list in Intake or Rx Detail.
For more information, see Adding a SIG Code and Adding Instructions.
If a patient prefers to have most or all of their medication instructions in their primary language, you can set the Label Language preference in the Patient Folder accordingly. While this is not required, it does reduce the amount of manual effort to set up each of the patient's prescriptions. You can still override the Language preference for the prescription in Rx Detail if needed.
To set the Label Language preference for a Patient Folder:
-
Open the Patient Folder.
-
Select the Preferences tab.
-
Under Language, dropdown the Label field and select the desired language.
-
Select Save.
All future prescriptions (i.e., New, Refill, ReAuth) processed for this patient will default to chosen language as the Label Language.
For a non-English SIG to print on the label, both of the following conditions must be met:
-
The SIG Codes used in Rx Detail must exist in List Maintenance for the desired language.
-
The prescription Label Language preference must be set to the desired language. If the patient's Label Language preference was set to that language, this will already be defaulted for the prescription.
To enter a non-English SIG for a prescription:
-
Select Intake from the Workbench or Patient Profile.
-
If Intake was initiated from the Workbench, search for and select the correct patient.
-
If the prescription already exists on the patient's Profile, select Profile to refill or reauthorize the prescription. Select OK once done.
-
In the SIG field, enter the desired SIG Codes or select the Instruction from the dropdown list.
If the SIG dropdown list isn't available, turn on the Display SIG Dropdown List preference in More (...) > Pharmacy > User.
You can process the prescription from Intake without a SIG and enter the SIG in Rx Detail.
-
Enter the remaining prescription information.
-
Select Process. The prescription opens in Rx Detail. The SIG in the Main and Extended tabs of Rx Detail will appear in the chosen language.
-
If the Label Language was not set to the desired language in the Patient Folder:
-
Select the Extended tab.
-
From the Language dropdown, select the desired language.
-
-
Fill the prescription as per usual process.
