Packager Preferences

The Packager preferences in the Group's Preferences tab dictate whether or not a patient's Prescriptions will be dispensed from an automated dispensing device. The Group preference allows a default device to be selected for the entire Group, while a setting at the patient level overrides the Group preference. The Rx Detail preference provides a final override when determining if a patient's Prescriptions should be auto-dispensed.

This setting determines if Prescriptions for the Group's patients will be auto-dispensed. When a packager is selected, the Group's Prescriptions will be auto-dispensed from that packager. When Default is selected, the packager assigned at the drug level is used. The following hierarchy is used to determine which packager a Prescription is submitted to if different packagers are set at various levels:

Drug > Group > Patient > Prescription

For example, if the packager in the Group Folder Preferences tab differs from the packager in the Group Folder Patients tab for a patient, the patient-level packager overrides the Group packager.

When No auto-dispensing is selected, no Prescriptions will be auto-dispensed for this Group.

For a Prescription to be auto-dispensed, a packager must be set at the drug level; if No auto-dispensing is selected at the drug level, the Prescription will not be auto-dispensed regardless if a packager is set at the Group level.

The above applies to Non-Retail Groups. For retail Groups, Prescriptions will not inherit the Group Packager; the packager must be set in Rx Detail if it's different than what's set in the Drug Folder.

This setting is only available if the packager requires a card type to be specified. When a card type is selected, the Group's Prescriptions will be packaged using that card. The following hierarchy is used to determine which card type is used when different card types are set at various levels:

Group > Patient > Prescription

For example, if the card type in the Group Folder Preferences tab differs from the card type in the Group Folder Patients tab for a patient, the patient-level card type overrides the Group card type.

This is only applicable to non-Central Fill Groups. These settings allow you to exclude narcotics and PRNs from auto-dispensing.

  • Narcotics - When selected, the Packager and Card Type, if applicable, auto-populate in the Rx Detail Administration Details window for narcotic Prescriptions. When the flag is OFF, narcotic Prescriptions are set to No auto-dispensing in Rx Detail.

  • PRNs - When selected, Prescriptions using PRN as the Frequency have the Packager and Card Type, if applicable, auto-populated in the Rx Detail Administration Details window. When the flag is OFF, PRN Prescriptions are set to No auto-dispensing in Rx Detail.
